OAK BROOK, Ill. (June 7, 2010) — The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Research and Education (R&E) Foundation will fund 73 grants totaling nearly $2.3 million in 2010.

Projects funded by R&E Foundation grants will have an impact on basic science, translational research and clinical outcomes and cover a wide range of research and education topics, including quality improvement, molecular imaging and resident education.

Grants provided by the R&E Foundation serve as seed grants to launch young careers. Every dollar awarded to a grantee by the R&E Foundation generates more than $30 in subsequent funding from sources including National Institutes of Health, government agencies, corporations and private foundations.

We recognize the critical link between today's research and tomorrow's practice," said Jack E. Price, chair of the R&E Foundation Board of Trustees. "In addition, our commitment to education ensures the development of tomorrow's workforce."

In 2010, R&E Foundation grants will be awarded to individuals at 37 institutions, including international recipients in China and Nigeria.

The Foundation received 194 grant applications for the current year, marking a 60 percent increase over last year and the highest number in the Foundation's history, demonstrating the critical demand for grant funding in academic institutions.

Since its inception in 1984, the R&E Foundation has awarded more than $30 million in grant awards to over 800 investigators and educators. Grant funding is made possible by the support of thousands of individuals, private practices and corporations that share in the R&E Foundation's mission to improve patient care.
