Rebecca L Hulett, M.D., Travels to South Africa through International Education Program

OAK BROOK, Ill. (August 4, 2014) – Radiologist Rebecca L. Hulett, M.D., from the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR), will bring her medical expertise to Cape Town, South Africa, as part of the International Visiting Professor Program offered by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). The program fosters international relations among radiology societies to assist with medical education in developing and newly developed nations.

Dr. Hulett, assistant professor of radiology at MIR in St. Louis, Mo., will be joined by a fellow radiologist as she embarks August 1 on the 16-day trip. She will spend her visit giving presentations and teaching intensive seminars to radiology residents, as well as attending conferences and meetings.

The program is mutually beneficial. The visiting team of radiologists informs local doctors and hospitals about the latest advances in diagnostic and therapeutic radiology. In turn, the visiting professors experience firsthand the obstacles faced by medical professionals in the host countries.

"I am interested in international radiology because of the benefits of sharing information with other centers," Dr. Hulett said. "There are many opportunities for teaching as well as learning. I have a curiosity about how challenges in imaging are handled in other countries. I also have a desire to spread the word about the Image Gently campaign to lower the radiation dose in medical imaging in children; the principles are applicable all over the world. I am very grateful to the RSNA for this opportunity to be part of the International Visiting Professor team traveling to South Africa."

Dr. Hulett will be accompanied by Anil Khosla, M.D., assistant professor of radiology at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine and staff radiologist at Imaging Advantage, St. Joseph Hospital in Stockton, Calif.

Dr. Hulett will begin her trip attending conferences at Stellenbosch University in Western Cape. She will visit the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Rondebosch and end her trip attending meetings and presenting at Tygerberg Hospital in Parow.
