RSNA 2024 Registration Is Open

Professional registration is open for RSNA 2024, the world’s largest radiology forum. This year’s theme, RSNA 2024: Building Intelligent Connections, emphasizes the important role AI plays in empowering radiologists into the future. Radiology, more than any other specialty, is poised to leverage the strengths of high-tech solutions, leading to more high-touch, patient-centered care. Through the intentional, ethical integration of AI technologies, we will experience the power of human innovation, collaboration and progress. Media registration opens August 7. RSNA Issues Call for Cutting-Edge Abstracts

The RSNA 2024 “Cutting-Edge Research” call for abstracts is now open. The call targets research on the following hot topics in radiology:

• Multiomic and Multicenter Radiology AI
• Theranostics
• Low-Field and Mobile MRI
• Value Based, Equitable and Sustainable Radiology

Abstract submissions close Aug. 7 at noon CT.

Last Chance to Register for ACQUIRE

Registration for RSNA’s new Applying Comparative Effectiveness and Quality Improvement Research and Education (ACQUIRE) Program closes Aug. 1. The program offers an intensive, hybrid learning experience that will strengthen comparative effectiveness and quality improvement knowledge. Workshop 1 will be held Sept. 12-13, 2024, at RSNA Headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois. Workshop 2 will be held virtually March 4, 2025. The program is co-sponsored by RSNA, the American Society of Neuroradiology, the Society of Interventional Radiology Foundation and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. RSNA Announces Editorial Fellows

Matthew Davenport, M.D., is the 2024 RSNA William R. Eyler Editorial Fellow, and Nadia Solomon, M.D., M.Sc., M.A., has been named the 2024 William W. Olmsted Trainee Editorial Fellow. Pankaj Gupta, M.D., was selected as the first recipient of RSNA’s new International Editorial Fellowship. Learn more about the fellowships.

Tanzania Global Learning Center Celebrates Successful Completion

In June, RSNA’s Global Learning Center (GLC) at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania completed its work, which included creating neuroradiology and women’s imaging two-year fellowship programs, the first of their kind in the region. The RSNA GLC program in Tanzania was a large-scale, international collaboration. Funding was provided by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration. RSNA plans to continue its connection with MUHAS to support cancer screening and treatment in Dar es Salaam. 

Radiology: Artificial Intelligence Publishes CLAIM Update

Radiology: Artificial Intelligence has published an important update to the Checklist for Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging (CLAIM). Since its introduction, CLAIM has sought to promote complete and consistent reporting of AI science in medical imaging and has been adopted widely in several medical specialties. The update contains several key changes, including adoption of the term “reference standard” in lieu of “ground truth” and the terms “internal/external testing” to replace “validation.”

RSNA Offers Webinar on the Radiologist’s Role in Diagnosing Lung Toxicity from Anti-Cancer Drugs

A free, one-hour webinar sponsored by AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo will be held Sept. 12 at noon CT. Webinar attendees will increase their understanding of interstitial lung disease (ILD)/pneumonitis related to anti-cancer drugs. Leading experts will share best practices and valuable insight related to ILD/pneumonitis risk factors, early diagnosis, the radiologist’s role within multi-disciplinary teams, and the monitoring and management of potential toxicity. Emergency Radiology Spotlight Course Set for Chile

Registration is open for The Current State of Emergency Radiology: An Interactive Course to be held Oct. 2, 2024, in Santiago, Chile. Attendees will join RadioGraphics editor Christine “Cooky” Menias, M.D., and a bilingual English/Spanish-speaking faculty of experts for this dynamic course, presented in partnership with the Sociedad Chilena de Radiologia. The course will focus on topics in traumatic and non-traumatic radiology and will examine injuries requiring surgical or endovascular intervention. Course participants will learn about key findings that may influence treatment approaches and techniques and gain practical insights for maximizing efficiency and navigating imaging pitfalls. Open Data Repository Gets New Name

The RSNA Medical Imaging Resource for AI (MIRA), formerly the Open Data Repository, is a collection of datasets available for download and use through the Amazon Web Services Open Data Sponsorship program. RSNA has worked with research sites worldwide that have contributed imaging data for various AI challenge competitions. Expert radiologists have provided annotations of the imaging data from these challenges. To use this high-quality data, researchers can access MIRA at Imaging.RSNA.org.

Imaging AI in Practice Becomes Radiology Reimagined

The “Imaging AI in Practice” demonstration, a regular feature of the annual meeting, has been renamed “Radiology Reimagined: AI, innovation and interoperability in practice.” This in-person experience showcases new technologies and communication standards needed to integrate the diagnostic radiology workflow, including AI applications. Attendees can experience the use of real-world clinical scenarios and interoperability standards demonstrating the steps of the radiology workflow using new tools and practice enhancements. RadLex Released in FHIR Format

RadLex, RSNA’s comprehensive set of radiology terms for use in radiology reporting, decision support, data mining, data registries, education and research, has been released in a new format designed to make it easier to incorporate systems and electronic patient records. Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) was developed by Health Level 7 International (HL7) to simplify data exchange between health care applications while maintaining data integrity. This version allows RadLex to be a terminology binding for other FHIR resources, such as observations, using the standard FHIR format enabling coded values.
