The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) is committed to connecting radiologists and the radiology community to the most timely and useful COVID-19 information and resources. Therefore, RSNA has launched a series of initiatives aimed at providing radiology professionals with the tools they need during the coronavirus pandemic.
RSNA Journals Show Big Gains in Impact Factor
Radiology and RadioGraphics, RSNA’s peer-reviewed print journals, both increased their impact factors in 2019, according to the newly released Clarivate Analytics 2019 Journal Citation Reports. Impact factor measures the relevance and influence of academic journals based on citation data.
Radiology has a 2019 impact factor of 7.931, up from 7.608 in 2018. The journal’s impact factor has risen steadily since 2015, growing 16% over the past five years. The journal was cited 52,731 times in 2019 and ranks third in impact factor among journals in the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Imaging category, making it one of the top cited journals in the field. The most-cited article in 2019 was “Guidelines for Management of Incidental Pulmonary Nodules Detected on CT Images: From the Fleischner Society 2017.”
RadioGraphics substantially increased its impact factor from 3.923 in 2018 to 4.967 in 2019 with 12,418 citations. The popular educational journal has nearly doubled its impact factor since 2015 and currently ranks 15th among radiology, nuclear medicine and medical imaging journals. The most-cited article in 2019 was “Machine Learning for Medical Imaging.”
RSNA 2020 Registration Opens July 22
Registration for RSNA 2020 will open on July 22 for members and non-members. RSNA members who register receive a free, 7-day, all-access conference pass with CME opportunities and free access to on-demand Virtual Meeting programming through April 30, 2021. Submissions Open for Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging Special Issue
Submissions are now being accepted for the Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging Special Issue on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention. This special issue, to be published online in February 2021, will feature Ron Blankstein, M.D., as guest editor. Potential topics of interest include use of coronary artery calcium scoring and coronary CT angiography to enhance prevention, as well as use of cardiovascular imaging to evaluate and treat cardiometabolic risk. Submissions are open until August 15, 2020.
Webinar: Crisis Leadership During COVID-19
On July 10 (11 a.m. – 12 p.m. CT), RSNA will host a webinar focusing on leading radiology teams during times of crisis. Topics will include organizational principles for leading an effective radiology department, forming a crisis leadership team, communication in times of crisis, and course corrections on the fly. Participants include Bien Soo Tan, M.B.B.S., Lluís Donoso-Bach, M.D., Ph.D., Mitchell D. Schnall, M.D., Ph.D., and RSNA Board Liaison for Science Carolyn C. Meltzer, M.D. The course will be moderated by RSNA President-Elect Mary C. Mahoney, M.D., Mahmud Mossa-Basha, M.D., and Christopher G. Filippi, M.D. The webinar is free, but registration is required.
3D Printing Data Registry Accepting Submissions
The RSNA-ACR 3D Printing Data Registry is accepting submissions. This registry aims to collect information about medical 3D printing, such as the indications, techniques, complexity and impact of 3D printed anatomic models and anatomic guides. This data will then enable aggregate analysis of why and how these models are created, which will in turn support a range of efforts in medical 3D printing, including quality improvement, standardization, appropriateness and reimbursement. Formlabs, HP, Materialise and Stratasys provided critical financial support in the form of unrestricted grants for this initiative. Details on the full registration process can be found on the National Radiology Data Registry (NRDR) knowledge portal.
RSNA 3D Printing SIG Webinar
The RSNA-ACR 3D Printing Registry: Case Examples and Data Entry webinar, developed by the RSNA 3D Special Interest Group (SIG), will be held Tuesday, July 14, 11 a.m. – 12. p.m. CT. The focus of this webinar will be to provide clinical case examples of 3D printing and to demonstrate how data entry for these cases is performed on the ACR NRDR site. The webinar will conclude with an interactive question-and-answer session. Speakers are Amy E. Alexander, B.M.E., M.Sc., and Nicole Wake, Ph.D. The webinar will be moderated by Kenneth C. Wang, M.D., Ph.D. Registration is required.
RSNA/AUR/ARRS Introduction to Academic Radiology (ITAR) and Academic Radiology for Scientists (ITARSc): Application Deadline: August 15, 2020
The ITAR program exposes second-year residents to academic radiology, demonstrates the importance of research in radiologic sciences, illustrates the excitement of research careers and introduces residents to successful clinical radiology researchers.
As a result of RSNA 2020 pivoting to a virtual meeting, the ITAR program directors are working to offer a shortened, modified web-based program. Successful applicants will be assigned to either a modified virtual ITAR program held in the weeks immediately preceding or following the RSNA 2020 Virtual Meeting, Nov. 29 – Dec. 5, 2020; or at an in-person ARRS annual meeting held in San Diego, California, April 18-23, 2021.

ITARSc will introduce participants to the scope of research in the radiologic sciences, highlight the important role of postdoctoral degrees in the radiologic sciences, identify keys to success for postdoctoral scientists in imaging research, and introduce participants to successful radiology researchers who may serve as future mentors. ITARSc will be a web-based program in the weeks preceding or following the RSNA 2020 Virtual Meeting, November 29 - December 5, 2020. RSNA.org/ITARSc.

RadInfo 4 Kids Helps Take the Fear Out of Pediatric Imaging
RadiologyInfo.org – the RSNA-ACR patient information website – has a child-friendly section to help kids better understand necessary imaging exams or procedures. RadInfo 4 Kids explains tests and treatments to children in a relatable way. Made by parents and kids for kids, the videos and content help ease children’s anxiety and take the fear out of routine exams. The public is encouraged to submit child-friendly content about imaging. Submissions can come in any form, including videos, stories or drawings, and do not have to be perfectly polished. For more information, contact Matthew Chwedyk at email@example.com.
