OAK BROOK, Ill. (July 14, 2011) — Jonathan M. Rubin, M.D., Ph.D., from the University of Michigan Medical Center (UMMC), will bring his medical expertise to Mexico as part of the International Visiting Professor Program offered by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). The program fosters international relations among radiology societies to assist with medical education in developing and newly developed nations.

Dr. Rubin, professor of radiology and director of ultrasound and abdominal interventional radiology at UMMC, will be joined by a fellow radiologist as he embarks July 19 on the 11-day trip. He will spend his visit giving presentations and teaching intensive seminars to members of hospital radiology departments in Mexico.

The program is mutually beneficial. The visiting team of radiologists informs local doctors and hospitals about the latest advances in diagnostic and therapeutic radiology. In turn, the visiting professors experience firsthand the obstacles faced by medical professionals in the host countries.

"Now through the RSNA International Visiting Professor Program, I can use my Spanish to convey my enthusiasm for ultrasound to Hispanic audiences both in standard lecture settings and in small groups," Dr. Rubin said. "This should be a stimulating and rewarding experience for me, and hopefully my audiences will be equally enriched."

Dr. Rubin will be accompanied by Barbara C. Cavanaugh, M.D., from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. Rubin will participate in the Federacion Mexicana de Radiologia e Imagen's 30th International Ultrasound Meeting in Puerto Vallarta. His trip will conclude in Merida, Yucatan, where he will visit Hospital del Seguro Social.

The International Visiting Professor Program was founded in 1986 and is administered by RSNA's Committee on International Relations and Education. This program is supported by Fujifilm Medical Systems.
