OAK BROOK, Ill. (March 25, 2009) — The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) announced today that the Society's peer-reviewed research journal, Radiology, was named one of the 100 most influential journals in biology and medicine over the last 100 years in a poll conducted by the Special Libraries Association (SLA).

As part of SLA's centennial, the association's Biomedical and Life Sciences Division designated three panels of experts to devise voter preference questions comparing journals in the categories of Clinical Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Natural History. The questions were sent to SLA's 686 members, and their responses were used to determine the top journals in each of the three categories, which would ultimately comprise the top 100.

"This justly deserved recognition is a tribute to the vision and dedication of the past editors of Radiology and the RSNA Board of Directors, who have been unwavering in their support of the journal," said Radiology editor Herbert Y. Kressel, M.D. "Most importantly it reflects the efforts of the thousands of authors and reviewers who, over the years, have helped shape the journal into the valuable resource that it has become."

Radiology has been published regularly by RSNA since 1923 and has long been recognized as an authoritative reference for the most current, clinically relevant and highest quality research in the field of radiology. Each month the journal publishes peer-reviewed original research, authoritative reviews, well-balanced commentary on significant articles and expert opinion on new techniques and technologies.
